I was looking outside the window, gazing at the beautiful scenery, and something caught my attention. I saw a wasp struggling very hard to get out. It couldn’t get past the mesh to the beautiful garden, so I tried guiding it through the door. But it felt threatened, since it did not understand my intention to help. I opened all the windows and doors and pulled down mesh wherever I could, but the wasp continued holding on to that mesh – hoping to get through it somehow.
The wasp followed the window since the light was coming from there. But it couldn’t see the thin mesh that blocked its way. It struggled, as it still saw the light & wanted to move in that direction but couldn’t see the thin mesh which trapped it.
A thought came to me – isn’t this how our life is most of the times! We are stuck in our mental patterns, in our beliefs and emotions. If we think deeply, most of the times – this thin mesh of our beliefs and emotions traps us. The biggest challenge is – these mental programs are so subtle, that we fail to even notice them. We see the light of life, but these subtle yet strong conditionings hold us back. We kind of know what to do, but we feel stuck!
And somewhere, the universe in various forms nudges us to take a different way. It could either be in the form of an intuition, an inner voice, a friend, counsellor, books, guru, situation – anything or anyone. It pushes us to do things differently & challenge our perspectives. But there are times when we don’t act, because we feel uncomfortable & threatened. Our mind always resists any change and gives multiple reasons why choosing a different path is not viable or practical. The only time the mind accepts any new idea is when it feels safe & secured or when it is cornered to a place where there is no choice, but to take a different path!
The wasp certainly did not feel safe with my actions. Had it known my intentions, it would have surely followed my directions. Similarly, if only we trust the universe completely & understand its language, we can be guided. The nature of our mind is such that it needs to be convinced before it feels safe enough to place its trust in anything. It wants to know – Is Universe merely a massive machine or is it alive & aware of my tiny presence? Does it really care for me & my interests? Am I capable of reading the signals or understanding its language? These are big questions and that’s for later!
Well, you must be thinking what happened to the wasp. I opened all the doors and windows for it to go out and 3 other wasps came in and got stuck inside:) Universe – are you listening? :)))
